The slate coloured junco is seen here perching on a trellis in our Ontario backyard. These adorable little birds provide us with a lot of enjoyment as we watch them at the feeders and on the deck. They tend to signify winter in our part of Canada and head north towards the Arctic in the warmer months.

We spotted this Oregon junco while we were out in British Columbia. They came in a large flock to the feeders in our daughter's backyard. They had the same body shape and feeding habits as the ones we see in our garden, but just the colouring is slightly different with a reddish brown back and a black hood.
To me they are all cute feathered lens friends and we hope to continue to enjoy them for a long time in the garden.
I'm linking up with Tuesday Tweets, Wild Bird Wednesday, Outdoor Wednesday and Nature Notes.

Well captured Linda great to see your type of birds .
ReplyDeleteGreat captures!! They'll soon visit me. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteLinda thank you for these pictures because NOW we know what these little birds are that visit our back garden all the time !!
ReplyDeleteJohn thought they were another name but now that I see your pictures I can let him know what they are : )

Glad today's post helped you to identify some birds in your garden.
Deletei love these little birds. glad you were able to catch the tri-color model as we only see the slate-colored here. sometimes lucky enough to see some darker varieties among the grays. :)
ReplyDeleteThese shots really give a great close look at the juncos. As you know, I'm lucky enough to have them visit my backyard.
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful close ups of the junco. They are such cute birds and we have them here as well.
ReplyDeleteLovely little bird! I had the good fortune of seeing one our side of the pond the other week, not a common bird in Britain!

Lucky spotting for you in England John.
DeleteYou have a lovely blog John, but unfortunately you have that dreaded word verification and I have a dreadful time reading the letters, so can never leave comments.
DeleteSuch great shots, the birds here are fleeting, and never stay for more then a second. But looking at your photos, we might be having some Junco's here.
ReplyDeleteJen @ Muddy Boot Dreams
You probably have the Oregon juncos out your way Jen.
DeleteLovely shots!
ReplyDeleteI have to smile. We have posted the same bird this week. I was sure I had a junco but it didn't look like my guide pic.
When I googled images I was surprised to see the color differences. :)
I noticed we posted about the same bird.
DeleteThey are such cute little birds! I love seeing the first ones in late fall. When they leave, I know that spring is here.
ReplyDeleteGood post, nice bird!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Love your photos!
ReplyDeleteLovely images of a beautiful little bird I don't get to see..
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful close up captures of these delightful birds.
ReplyDeleteGreat sighting of the Oregon Junco. They look more colorful than the Dark Eye Juncos I see here. Thanks for sharing, great post.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots of these tiny feathered friends. I find little birds quite entrancing.
ReplyDeleteI love the pink beak and legs of the Juncos and that bubbly little call they have, we get them only in witner and sure miss them when they go north for breeding!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots! The only time I see the Juncos in my yard is after a rain.
ReplyDeleteWe just don't have Juncos in South Florida. Very nice images and narrative!
ReplyDeleteNot surprisingly, we used to have those in our yard when we lived in Oregon. None here in Florida! I hope I see some when we go back "home" this summer . I always thought their eyes look very lively.
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely shots for detail as I think they have the sweetest little faces.. I had 10 in my Project Feeder Watch Count last weekend, but I didn't see any today. Maybe they are headed home.. Lovely post and thank you for linking up to Nature Notes.. have a wonderful week...Michelle
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle, I'm enjoying participating in Nature Notes, especially visiting all the other blogs that join.

ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I love juncos. Yes, spring...
ReplyDeleteCheers from Cottage Country!
I enjoy the juncos that visit me. You took some great shots of them.
ReplyDeleteJuncos are wonderful birds. Juncos are one reason to like winter here in Ontario. :)
ReplyDeleteI love these! Really beautiful shots.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of this bird. Thanks for introducing me to him.
ReplyDeleteOne of our favorite winter birds here in Michigan too, and an interesting photographic challenge to boot getting those beady black eyes to show up. Great job!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! We haven't had any Juncos at all this winter.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful little bird.
ReplyDeleteRegards and best wishes
