The fence has seen better days, in fact I can remember when it stood straight and tall and kept cows in the field. But years have passed, the cows are long gone, the barn has been taken down, some top railings are missing and without any maintenance the old fence now looks very rickety. I imagine one of these days it will fall to the ground. But just look at the wonderful shadow it cast on the lawn beside it. Who would think we would be seeing green lawns in mid February. Where is the blanket of winter white? The field to the left is now used to store bales of hay and the fields in the background are where we watch the deer. This morning the old fence has a sprinkling of snow on it as we had some snow overnight. There wouldn't be the opportunity for a shadow photo today as it is cloudy and dull.
Without the sun we would have no shadows.
I'm linking with Friday Fences , Shadow Shot Sunday , and Sunlit Sunday.

I wouldn't want to see the fence any other way - it probably looks better in it's old age than it did new.
ReplyDeleteNo shadows today on this wintery Saturday.
The fence is certainly more interesting in this state.
DeleteHi. Found your blog on a random next blog thing. Love the beautiful outdoor pictures. These are the kind of pictures I'm always drawn to and these are outstanding. I will come back to see what you have to post. Thanks
ReplyDeleteHi Suz, glad you discovered my blog. I love taking and sharing photos. Hope you stop back soon.
DeleteGood Morning, Linda
ReplyDeleteI like the interesting pattern the fence has created on the ground. How nice that you have a place handy for deer watching! I'll be hard pressed to find a ray of sunlight here today, there's a light snowfall and some frosty temperatures once again.
Thanks for linking to Sunday Sunday (it will be up this evening). Have a wonderful weekend!
-Karen
It's dull here too Karen, with some snow coming down. And every now and then a gust of wind comes along and blows the snow all around. A good day to stay inside and do chores and visit blogs.
DeleteGreat post. Can you tell me how you got the page tabs at the top of your blog? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi Jeanne, the tabs are created when you make pages on your Blogger template. When made you have the option to have them at the top or on the sidebar. Choosing top is what gives the tabs. Thanks for stopping by today.
DeleteGreat shot...love the shadows this old fence casts on a sunny day!
ReplyDeleteI love old fences and particularly the shadows they make with the sun!! This is such a terrific capture! Hope you have a great weekend! Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteVery nice shot.
ReplyDeleteI like the long shadow of that old fence.
Regards and best wishes
Finishing my Friday Fence tour with your photo and what a nice conclusion. Your photo made me smile--it is so gentle and evocative of other times. I'm glad it's still almost standing even though not doing much in the way of fencing. Excellent composition.
ReplyDeleteI bet that old fence would still keep the cows in. They're pretty dumb! It sure makes a swell Shadow Shot. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeletePS - I LOVE your masthead photos.
ReplyDeleteI really, REALLY like that squiggly shadow! Very cool!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how we take such care to keep things from growing old, yet there are times when the older things get, the nicer they are.
ReplyDeleteI just adore fences. Why I do not know. I think they lead to something I guess. What a lovely spot and a great shadow. V
ReplyDeleteGreat capture! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love viewing old fences, and you have captured the shadows of this fence so beautifully. Our fence is not that old, and I hope we do have a lot of time before it needs repair.
ReplyDeleteGood you got a picture of this before it collapses :) It does make lovely, interesting shadows, though. Great choice, and great capture!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week!
Interesting shadows!
ReplyDelete"AWESOME" was just yours ( excuse the pun ) for the "taking." ;0)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful view awaiting your trips to the mailbox!!
ReplyDeleteYour eye for the artistic element of a broken fence - Thanks for sharing your vision.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot Linda. Imagine that green grass in February!
ReplyDeleteJudith

Great character in that fence. Love it.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful walk to your snail mail. I would love that view each day.
Classic photography. Love it. I see things now days I would never even bothered with a few years ago, thanks to my new photography interest and all I am learning from blogging.

The rickety fence has so much character - as displayed by the shadow it casts! It is working on sense of artwork! Gorgeous scene!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda,

Hi Linda
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my blog - re: snowy birds. How did you put in the pages at the top to categorize your postings? I'm trying to figure it out with now luck.
Pages is an option at Blogger. When you are at the page after clicking Design at the top right of your blog, go down to pages (3rd one on left) From there you can add pages. There is another option at the top to have the pages show on top so they are tabs, or on your sidebar (which I don't have). Just click new page and add what you want. You can create as many as you like, and arrange them how you like to show on your blog.
DeleteHope this helps, if not ask some more questions.
I was born and raised on a farm. I can assure there were plenty of shadows then and as you showed us, plenty today. They make some of the best.
ReplyDeleteThe shadows are gorgeous, with the missing rails making the patterns uneven!!
ReplyDeleteLove the shadow of the fence. Makes for a very distinct shadow.
ReplyDeleteHi there! I stumbled upon your blog today looking at the 'sunlit sunday' posts. I love your bird photos on the top!! I wish I could stroll along that beautiful fence every day.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, greetings from Northern Ontario. I'm just stopping by to say how delightful your blog is. We had a couple of albino bluejays in our garden one year. They were definitely bluejays. Thanks so much for sharing. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris
