Even though it was past 9:30 am there was still a bit of a red tinge to the sky. From the beginning of our walk, and a view out over the bay, it still appears to be frozen over. Appearances can be deceiving as this ice is not very thick and not safe to be on.

Look at the different colours of the ice with patches of water beginning to appear. The gulls have found some perching spots. The ice is melting and soon it will all be gone.

We spotted gulls, a fair sized flock of mallard ducks flying overhead, and the robins I shared yesterday. Soon more feathered lens friends will be arriving down by the bay. I'll be capturing photos of herons, ducks, geese, cormorants and swans. The swans and geese have been sighted at the mouth of the Moira River where there is more open water. Unfortunately for me they weren't there the time we were.
I'm linking up with Watery Wednesday, Nature Notes, and Outdoor Wednesday.

I hope that the snow melts around here also. Love the shot of the birds on the beach.

Brrr....poor sea gulls. Looks so cold out there on the frozen lake.

What a nice destination for a walk. Loved the robin yesterday and all the feathered friends today. :) (I have been humming "down by the bay" since I started reading your post today! lol! Lois
ReplyDeleteLOVE that second shot with the seagulls all lined up. Thanks for taking us along for your walk.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I remember when our February's looked like that. Not that long ago. Those pictures are to me what February should look like - ice that you know is thin and dangerous. Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteHI Rosie, thanks for stopping by. I did visit your blog and tried to leave a comment but the word verification has me stumped every time, so I just give up.
Deleteyour photos are lovely
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty much what the ice looks like on Lake Simcoe too. It amazes me that there are people who walk on it none the less!
ReplyDeleteYet a few people ignore all the warnings and go out on the ice, only to have rescuers go out to save them. It has happened a few times here.
DeleteWonderful photos, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, Thanks for stopping by my blog, I did appreciate your comment.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are beautiful, and relaxing to see. The weather here is quite mild at the moment no snow at all, but we are expecting heavy rain soon.

You are so lucky! I would love to take a walk there.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful views of the bay. Love the birds and I am so happy spring is so close. Wonderful photos, have a great day!
ReplyDeleteYou probably have mixed feelings about it going. Did you have less snow this year than in others?
ReplyDeleteLinda girl you wouldn't believe how hard it is NOT to say a word on Wednesday for me ! haha ..
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the shamrocks !! You have inspired me to try and get out tomorrow and find some for my kitchen, so they can smile for me too.
It has been snowing a bit here but rain is supposed to happen over night .. that last bit of red in the sky that you found so late in the morning is amazing ! No colour for my morning sky here at all .. hope that will change soon .. it is down hill from here ? LOL

Do I detect a bit of regret that winter will soon be over in Ontario? With these beautiful scenes to enjoy, I'd certainly want them to stay around a bit longer. Your March blog header is so fresh and welcoming.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. I like the shades of blues and grays of the water and ice. Very pretty scenery! Love your new header too. Spring is coming!
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures and I am glad that Spring is coming to Canada! I agree that I need to rush out and get some shamrocks because tomorrow is March 1!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Nature Notes..is it only 20 days till Spring? yea!!!!! Even thought we are moving toward spring, the snow and ice your way looks a lot better than the brownish ice on our pond.. I look forward to your heron and other water bird posts. This is a lovely share for Nature Notes and I hope you have a nature filled week...Michelle
ReplyDeleteHi Michells, I will be sure to participate in Nature Notes again. I was glad to discover it.
DeleteI am always amazed that birds can tolerate such cold water. I saw an American dipper bobbing in the Merced River yesterday, I was freezing but he didn't seem to mind.
ReplyDeleteThe snow is back again today, so it's difficult to think of anything melting. I like your shamrocks header, so appropriate for March.
ReplyDeleteWe had a bit of sow and ice rain overnight too, but that means March came in like a lion so it will leave like a lamb.
DeleteFirst snow and later rain...
ReplyDeleteNow the snow has melted away and grass looks green again.
greetings from Guildwood.
