Hello Robins

The robins are back and that is always a good sign that nesting season is on its way.  It is always an exciting time to hear and spot the first robins of the season.

It was a lovely day on Monday so we treated ourselves to breakfast in a new restaurant in town and then we went for a lovely walk down by the bay.

This one is a bit blurry but you can see why the robins are in this tree.  There are red berries to snack on.

We've been hearing the robins around the house for just over a week but have only caught a glimpse of them way up in the top of the trees, too far away for a good photo.  And that wasn't for lack of trying.

On our walk we heard and saw a few robins.  Luckily a couple of them were sitting in a tree close to the path and I was able to snap a few photos.  Well okay, it was more than a few.  It seems we have to take numerous photos just in case one shot didn't turn out.

These are the perfect feathered lens friends to share with Tuesday Tweets and Wild Bird Wednesday.

  1. Haven't seen any here yet, Linda. But I'm sure they are about, just not showing their colours yet. Spent the afternoon yesterday outside trimming the grapevine and trumpet vine, so spring is definitely on it's way. I think it's going to be early this year, don't you?

    1. I'm hoping spring will be early Heather. You can begin to see the subtle changes in the trees and gardens.

  2. Hello Linda
I'm glad to hear the robins are back, spring is just around the corner.
You mentioned one time I think that you are using Pixelmator with your Mac? I'm only using iPhoto and wonder how you like it? Can you make collages with it? I think I 'm ready to upgrade to something a little better and any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks,
    Judith

    1. Yes, I use Pixelmator for my Mac. You can purchase it from the App store, I think it is just under $30.
I like the program and it is very similar to Photoshop. You can make collages with it but mostly I use Picasa for Mac to do that. That is a free download.
I haven't really used iPhoto at all as my daughter in son in law (have Macs for home and business) recommended Pixelmator so I got it right away.
I do miss some aspects of Photoshop but I'm sure I just need to play around with Pixelmator more to find out all the features.
I think if you give it a try you won't be disappointed. There was just an update, which are always free once you have originally purchased the program.

  3. Yay. Nice to see photos of them. I've seen a lot here too - last week before the snow - so I hope they are surviving.

  6. Such lovely photos! I heard a robin singing his little heart out last week! I was thrilled. I look forward to their return every year as it reminds me how close we are to reuniting with our gardens.

  9. The morning I saw them here I stepped out on the deck to see them flittering all over the yard and they were singing in the trees - made my heart sing.
    Lovely shots!

  10. I did not see a single robin all winter here in South Florida. Every few years we see hundreds/thousands, mostly flying over. It's probably too late for them now.

  13. Robins are a wonderful sign of things to come. I had a mama nesting in my arbour one year. How do you manage, I wonder, to get so many nice bird photos. My feathered friends flit away! (By the way, I swung by Canada Post this afternoon!)
