Brave Little Downy

During the ice and snow storm towards the end of January the little downy woodpecker braved the feeders.

She tried the peanut feeder which was coated with snow and ice.

She held on and pecked away at the icy suet.  She was very persistent and I think she finally did get something to eat.  Brave little lens friend.

Here is the male woodpecker a few days later when all the snow and ice and melted away.  He is really enjoying pecking away at the suet feeder.

Tuesday Tweets shares photos of feathered lens friends.  If you post bird photos on your blog why not consider joining.  I"m also joining with World Bird Wednesday, where you can see some amazing bird photos.

  1. Hi Linda
Your birdies can be thankful that you feed them nutritious treats. My biggest worry while away was that our feeders would run dry in no time but my neighbour assured me he puts seed out every day so they can at least eat there.
    Nice shots of the woodpecker.

    1. When we were away for the month of November I worried about the birds. We stocked the feeders before we left but they were all empty when we returned. It took awhile to get the birds back visiting the feeders when we returned.

  2. That reminds me, I better fill the feeder this morning. Great shots, Linda. I love watching the birds at our feeders. Right now there are some goldfinches, sparrow and juncos (my new favorites). But we do get woodpeckers also from time to time.

    1. I filled all the feeders yesterday and I'm sure they have look outs as right away the odd bird starts chirping out the message and before long they all seem to return to check out what is there. :)

  3. Persistent little bird! We have a couple cute little downies come to our feeders. They used to be really shy, but I think they're getting braver and more used to seeing us around. Here in NC, they don't have to be quite so tenacious though, since we don't get nearly that much snow and ice!

  6. Hi there I have bird pictures I would love to share with you all. I dont know how to link up?
I love the Downy. We get them here in Michigan but they seldom come to the feeder. I need to put out some suet or something else they would enjoy.

    1. We had one ice storm towards the end of January, the photos in my header and the ones of the downy at the feeder were taken right after that storm. Since then we haven't had any more storms and the weather has been most unusual for winter.

  10. Looks very cold. The birds around here have had it pretty easy this winter with our moderate temps and very little snow cover. Thanks for participating in this weeks Tuesday Tweets.

    1. The embedded comments had some glitches at first, but now that things are sorted out they work just fine. I like the option of adding the reply right under the comment. Not sure if people come back to read comments but at least they are there.
The icy photos were taken at the end of January, since then we haven't had any ice at all.

  22. He is adorable!! I love your header photos! What did your groundhog predict for your area?

    ReplyDelete
  23. The Ontario groundhog predicted an early spring. Winter has been very unusual for us this year. The icy photos were taken at the end of January. That winters weather only lasted a couple of days and now all ice and snow are gone.
