She tried the peanut feeder which was coated with snow and ice.

She held on and pecked away at the icy suet. She was very persistent and I think she finally did get something to eat. Brave little lens friend.
Here is the male woodpecker a few days later when all the snow and ice and melted away. He is really enjoying pecking away at the suet feeder.
Tuesday Tweets shares photos of feathered lens friends. If you post bird photos on your blog why not consider joining. I"m also joining with World Bird Wednesday, where you can see some amazing bird photos.

Hi Linda
ReplyDeleteYour birdies can be thankful that you feed them nutritious treats. My biggest worry while away was that our feeders would run dry in no time but my neighbour assured me he puts seed out every day so they can at least eat there.
Nice shots of the woodpecker.
Judith
When we were away for the month of November I worried about the birds. We stocked the feeders before we left but they were all empty when we returned. It took awhile to get the birds back visiting the feeders when we returned.
DeleteThat reminds me, I better fill the feeder this morning. Great shots, Linda. I love watching the birds at our feeders. Right now there are some goldfinches, sparrow and juncos (my new favorites). But we do get woodpeckers also from time to time.
ReplyDeleteI filled all the feeders yesterday and I'm sure they have look outs as right away the odd bird starts chirping out the message and before long they all seem to return to check out what is there. :)
DeletePersistent little bird! We have a couple cute little downies come to our feeders. They used to be really shy, but I think they're getting braver and more used to seeing us around. Here in NC, they don't have to be quite so tenacious though, since we don't get nearly that much snow and ice!
ReplyDeleteooooh, sweet little birdie! it looks like you also have had a freezing rain, haven't you?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Have a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteHi there I have bird pictures I would love to share with you all. I dont know how to link up?
ReplyDeleteI love the Downy. We get them here in Michigan but they seldom come to the feeder. I need to put out some suet or something else they would enjoy.
Janice
Just go to the link in my post for Tuesday Tweets and there are directions there on how to join.
DeleteShe's certainly tenacious!
ReplyDeleteI love your icy banner.
Is this from this year?
We had one ice storm towards the end of January, the photos in my header and the ones of the downy at the feeder were taken right after that storm. Since then we haven't had any more storms and the weather has been most unusual for winter.
DeleteLucky you, gettin a Woodkecker at your feeders.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the woodpecker video. I watched it twice!
ReplyDeleteLooks very cold. The birds around here have had it pretty easy this winter with our moderate temps and very little snow cover. Thanks for participating in this weeks Tuesday Tweets.
ReplyDeleteA lot of ice you have there. Amazing how these little birds survive such conditions.
ReplyDeleteYou have some wonderful birds visiting your feeders...
ReplyDeletethose woodpeckers are very persistant. i like the closepin holding the suet together, i'm surprised it works!! lookin' very chilly!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. The birds do well to survive icy conditions like that.
ReplyDeleteShe's a beauty!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of your Downy woodpeckers. They do love the fatty suet in the winter.
ReplyDeleteI am crazy about bird feeders, love 'em. I have never seen peanuts in a cage like that. I will try that!
ReplyDelete;-)WBW!
wonderful photos of the little woodpecker....we have them here but not as much snow and ice so life is easy here!!I see you have the embedded comments, wondering how you like them?
ReplyDeleteThe embedded comments had some glitches at first, but now that things are sorted out they work just fine. I like the option of adding the reply right under the comment. Not sure if people come back to read comments but at least they are there.
DeleteThe icy photos were taken at the end of January, since then we haven't had any ice at all.
Great shots of the downy! You've got quite a bit of ice there.
ReplyDeleteThe ice has all vanished since I took those photos. It has been an unusual winter for us in souther Ontario.
DeleteLovely photos of a lovely little woodpecker! Thanks for visiting my blog and your kind comment, hopefully you will call by again?!

Nice shots of the little Downy!
ReplyDeleteHe is adorable!! I love your header photos! What did your groundhog predict for your area?
ReplyDeleteThe Ontario groundhog predicted an early spring. Winter has been very unusual for us this year. The icy photos were taken at the end of January. That winters weather only lasted a couple of days and now all ice and snow are gone.
