My blog, like life, is a mixture of all sorts of things . . . gardening, nature, crafts and photography. Right now it's the time of year when the focus is more on the non-gardening things I love to do. But I'm always thinking and dreaming of gardening.
This blog is word verification free. I set it to NO. However Blogger keeps changing the settings back to Yes. Very Frustrating. If it is showing, it isn't my doing.

Shadows in the Kitchen

We haven't had much sun for a few days.  On Friday we had an ice rain storm which coated everything and made driving very slow going.  Yesterday we had snow.  The big flakes that were swirling and twirling around just like we were inside a snow globe.  So getting some up to date sun and shadow photos has been a challenge.  So I'm using some photos that I took about a week ago when the sun was streaming through the windows and doors.

There were some wonderful shadows in the kitchen.  I already shared the ones of the snowmen and birds.  On the other side of the doorway the sun was creating lovely shadows of the spider plant and also the curtain from the kitchen window.

I love the twists and curls of the telephone wire and they appear so much bigger in the shadow on the wall. Yes we still have a landline that is actually fastened to the kitchen wall, hence the extra long cord so I can still continue working if a call comes in. There are also phones in other parts of the house that are cordless.  I'm actually thinking of getting rid of all those phones and just going with an iphone so I can keep up with the rest of the world.

It looks like it will be a sunlit Sunday after all.  After a cloudy start to the day the clouds have vanished and the sun is out, filling the rooms with glorious sunlight. I'm linking with Shadow Shot Sunday and Sunlit Sunday

I hope it is sunny in your part of the world.

  1. Great photos, as always, Linda. I enjoy seeing the play of light on plants; your phone cord shadow rather reminds me of the double helix structure! Thanks for joining in again this week at Sunlit Sunday.

  2. Linda: Who knew that a simple telephone cord could make such a beautiful pic with its shadow. There may be some very young people (who all have cells and no land lines) that are curious about the cord.
I live on Vancouver Island and today it is overcast, but very mild, so we won't probably see any shadows today. I say probably, because in a coastal climate weather changes very quickly.
Oh yes, I have witch hazel, hellebores and snowdrops in bud or bloom! The pansies in pots on our front deck were lying with their little faces hidden a week ago, but now they are looking up and smiling at me.

    1. No rain here Joy, lovely sunshine.
I'll check out the site for textures, but now I have an iMac I'm not using Photoshop. I use Pixelmator instead. I usually only crop and/or resize my photos.

  11. You came up with some great shadows despite having to stay inside for them. I love the phone cord!

Ice storms are so beautiful, but so deadly for the power lines, tree branches, and travel!

  15. I love the telephone wire shadow. It's a sun cloud mix here this afternoon and very windy but just above zero degrees. Not bad for Januray 29th!

  16. Hi Linda
Pretty shadows in the kitchen and sunlight under the flag.
We've talked about getting rid of the land line and all the extensions - many of the younger generation only have a smart phone. We'd probably save a bundle, right? I'd be interested in hearing more if you do go this route.

  20. Love your shadow shots and, of course, your flag!
I noticed in your header you're in garden zone 5b. Breaks my heart. We're only zone 3 here in southeastern Alberta. I spent most of my life on the southwest coast, so I was used to buying a live Christmas tree and planting it in the garden afterward. LOL

  26. I love the curly telephone wire. Its funny you wrote "getting rid of my phone to go to iphone" because the first thing I thought was...wow I have not seen a long kitchen telephone wire since I lived at home with my parents.
All your shots are just lovely.
