My blog, like life, is a mixture of all sorts of things . . . gardening, nature, crafts and photography. Right now it's the time of year when the focus is more on the non-gardening things I love to do. But I'm always thinking and dreaming of gardening.

Granny Shawl

On wintery days it is wonderful to have the option to stay inside.  The Crafty Side of me started a new shawl last week on a couple of stormy days.

I'm calling it a Granny shawl because it is made using half a granny square. It isn't really an original pattern but bits I've borrowed from other patterns.  You can find directions for the half squares if you Google it.  I'm doing 2 rows in each colour.  The colours with the smallest amounts left over are being used first, as with each row it gets a bit bigger and requires more yarn.  I don't want to change colour mid row, so I imagine it will get a bit trickier to find stash colours as the rows get bigger.

Here is the finished shawl. I really liked how it turned out using mostly earth tone colours. I love wearing shawls, especially in the evening when I watch tv and do my crochet or knitting.  I've got a favourtie one that I made ages ago.  But it is time for a more colourful one.

It was a lovely sunny day when I took the photos that I braved the cold and took some of the photos on the deck.  It measures 34 inches or about 87 cm. from the center to the tip and 68, about 174 cm. inches from tip to tip.

I'm sharing this post with Make Something Mondays and Mosaic Monday and The Crochet Way.

Thanks for visiting. Have a great day.

  1. Wow, Linda, you are prolific with your knitting and crocheting. You put us all to shame. I've been busy knitting for an upcoming baby shower. Just one more sock to go and I'll be done.
Today is the perfect day to hunker down and get it done as it's pouring rain here and pretty slippery out there.

  4. It's a beautiful shawl. I like the granny square. It was the first crochet article I learned to make. I couldn't make one now if my life depended on it. One of these days I am going to find a hook and some wool and give it a try. V
