This is one of our favourite spots to watch the herons, cormorants, swans and ducks in the nice weather. But on this day the rocks had no one fighting over them for a perch. The water on the bay was frozen over, but not thick enough for the ice fishing huts.

There was still a bit of open water around the rocks. But I imagine after the cold spell and wintery weather it is all frozen in now.

The brave ducks that stay for the winter are all huddled into a bit of a sheltered bay where there is some open water but also places to scurry into for protection.

The ducks calmly float around on the open water or stand on the icy layers. It was a wonderful day for a walk to enjoy the beauty of Nature. You could hear the constant quack of these ducks, certainly different from the summery quacks we hear.
I'm linking with Tuesday Tweets and Watery Wednesday.
Thanks for visiting. Have a great day.

Nice pics, Linda. We had snow too, but with the rain yesterday it's gone. A sprinkling of snow last night, but nothing to shovel thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteIt sure was rainy and foggy yesterday and the temperatures rose to the plus side. There were strong winds overnight and now temperatures have dropped way below zero. That will be good for freezing the water down by the bay.
DeleteLinda, those are such lovely photos - I'm almost shivering just looking at them. In the mean time, we are experiencing a heat wave here on the other side of the world :)
ReplyDeleteTrying out comments on this full page style. Visitors have been telling me they can't leave comments when it was the embedded style.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda
ReplyDeleteI had to change to full page for my comments too. Wonder why the embedded has stopped working for some? I read on one blog that if you upgrade to Google Chrome, the problems disappear.
The poor birds this winter -even the squirrels. Our pond freezes and thaws in the middle continuously and last week I watched a squirrel go for a drink and fall right in. A wet squirrel is not a happy one!

It's a good thing we bloggers are flexible, isn't it?
DeleteHi. I guess it worked! I don't know what you did but the comments came up no problem. :) I love these photos today. Very nice. It's nice to get out and see what nature is doing around us. I've been staying too close to home except for errands in town. Pamela
ReplyDeleteI switched my comments back to full page instead of embedded till the glitches are sorted out.
DeleteSo wonderful to watch those wading birds congregate in the winter.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely place for a walk. As for comments, my blog has embedded ones and doesn't seem to show the "reply" option.
ReplyDeleteTo get the reply button to show your feed has to be on full as well. You could check that. Right now a lot of visitors are having problems leaving comments while these updates are going on. I switched back to full page comments for awhile.
DeleteThe water looks like melted glass in your first photos. Quite beautiful against the dark rocks. You may have answered my questions. We have a local pond that's full of water fowl and I've been wondering if they'll stay around for the winter. Yours do? At least they've got plenty hiding places. Do they nest there in the spring as well?
ReplyDeleteYes, the ducks do nest in the spring along with lots more that return.
DeleteLooks a lot like home. It has been unseasonally warm here and we have almost no snow but in the past week we have finally recieved some cold weather. Thanks for participating in the inaugural version of Tuesday Tweets.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed participating and will join in again. Thanks for hosting Tuesday Tweets.

ReplyDeleteThose ducks are sure hardy. Are they drakes? I saw 3 loons here last week, but when I got close with my camera they flew away.
The ducks are male and female mallards.
DeleteLovely photos. Winter has been so strange this year. It took long getting here, and now it's been a little bit of everything in a short period.
ReplyDeleteHELLLLOOOO Linda !
ReplyDeleteI can finally leave a comment now girl : )
Thank you for letting me know about your camera .. I really want to make the switch too .. I just worry about dropping lenses and trying to switch in a hurry to catch a picture and thus doing the deed of said dropping of lens ?LOL
Phew .. now this problem is solved!
Joy : )
Changing lens takes a bit of getting used to. I have a lovely camera bag (daughter found it on etsy) and it holds all I need when I go out. You do have to plan your shots a bit and the switch from close up to long range takes a bit longer.
DeleteTrouble is with comments on full page, the replies don't go under the correct comment, they all show at the bottom. Hopefully this glitch is sorted out soon, as I really like the threaded comments feature.
ReplyDeletewhat a pretty place this is...beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteAmazing Photography Linda thankyou.
ReplyDeleteOver time, I have begun to find the beauty in winter besides the obvious elegance of snow. One of those lovely sights in winter is water--ponds, lakes, the shore. The icy edges frame it all so well. I watch the ducks in our lake as they continue to go about their day as if nothing has changed.
