The Steller Jay was a new siting for us, as we don't get them here in Ontario.

The noisy lens friends were captured from the balcony of the cottage where we stayed in Ucluelet on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It was a bit of a rainy day and you can see a few water droplets on the feathers.

These inquisitive birds came right to the balcony, perhaps hoping we would leave them a morsel of food.
This was another bird we were able to check off our list, along with the Black Oystercatcher
I'm sharing with Tuesday Tweets and Wild Bird Wednesday
Do you maintain a list of birds you have spotted?

No list, Linda. But I am enjoying all the new finches, cardinals and blue jays at my feeder daily. Just waiting for the goldfinches as these are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and a great camera catch!!!!
ReplyDeleteDressed in beautiful blue :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely visitor! Love the blue on this beauty.
ReplyDeleteWe get lots of those in our back garden here in the Seattle area, one of my favorites. There was one out there just the other day when I was there, chastising me for invading his turf.
ReplyDeleteLucky BC, those jays are sporting some gorgeous blues. Have a great weekend, my friend!
ReplyDeleteWow! Those are really beautiful birds. They look like they are dressed in formal attire with that brilliant blue. Here we have regular blue jays now. They are pretty, but their raucous behavior is anything but formal.
ReplyDeleteHe has such a gorgeous blue breast!

ReplyDeletePlease come see my critter shots. Have a good weekend!

ReplyDeleteOur first morning here we spotted a Northern Flicker outside the window, they are really shy.
ReplyDeleteI have seen a few Stellar Jays around the trees, they are such a beauty color.
Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams
We saw the Norther Flickers and Juncos, both of which are different varieties than here in Ontario.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda,
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on my new grandson. Congratulations to you also! Your photo's are terrific. I feed my birds but they spook easily and I do need a better camera so I can also catch the butterflies in the summer. Best wishes for a lovely holiday season!
How gorgeous! Love the blue shade.

I don't keep a list - I guess I should, but it would just be another thing I would forget to keep up! Loved these close-ups, especially of the jay. I don't know if we get them here in Virginia, but I have never seen one at any rate!

ReplyDelete;-)WBW!
Lovely birds indeed. IA long time ago, after my first heart operation, while I was slowly recovering, I spent a lot of time identifying the birds in our garden. I think I got to 68 and a few I could not identify. Lately I have made a list of birds and and add any 'lifers' to it as I am able to definitely identify them.
