The Zinnias Evolve

This week the Word for Wednesday is evolution or evolve
Watching the evolution of the blooms on the zinnias is fascinating.  I took photos of the zinnia buds over several days last year,to create my own time lapse photography, so you can see the process.

It all started with the tiny seed.

and grew into a little seedling.

A tight green bud evolves into a gorgeous flower in a few days.

The colours begin to emerge.

The petals take shape and begin to evolve on their own.

The colours are beginning to appear.

Those tiny yellow flowers around the center have evolved almost out of no where.

The more you look ... the more you see.
Nature never fails to amaze me.

Be sure to visit Word for Wednesday and see how others interpret todays word.

  1. There's nothing happier in the garden than zinnias. And your photos are a terrific way to show how they "evolve".

  4. I so enjoyed this post on the evolution of the zinnia flower. Your photos are amazing. I love to see the changes as they happen ever so subtly and then the full-blown flower. Zinnias are among my favorite of the annuals, nothing is more dependable and colorful.

  5. I enjoyed watching your zinnias evolve. You made it seem so easy, but I know their beauty must be due to your tender care as well.

  6. The zinnia is my favorite summer flower. I love to see the tiny yellow stars emerge in the centers as if they were the true flower inside.

  7. It really is amazing that so much is contained in that little bitty seed. I'm always in awe at how tiny every seed is, yet life is in there - and big flowers!

  8. Hi Linda, those are lovely photos to go with Evolve! It really is fascinating how every creature transforms to another level. In the beginning i thought of something like that, but i said, oh no, i should not confuse the word with 'growth and development'. I thought you will be really showing us a time lapse video, which i am still amazed how to do. I somehow needs someone to explain it to me! LOL.

  9. I am rarely without some zinnia seeds and a blooming zinnia or few except in coldest winter. Butterflies appreciate them, too.

  11. I was never a true fan of Zinnias until a few years ago. They are an amazing heat loving flower. So colorful, and bright.
