Marvellous Monday

It has been a hectic and fantastic weekend.
We started off by taking down the screen gazebo and putting away most of the garden ornaments.  I know the weather is still wonderful but that can change at any time.
I've spent lots of time finishing a baby sweater and working on a baby blanket.  On Saturday a new grandson was born.

I found this lovely, simple pattern on the web and decided to give it a try.  It is a seamless neck down cardigan.  The only time I had to do any stitching was when I stitched the buttons on.  I used a bit thicker yarn than called for and of course a bit larger sized needles.   I sure hope it fits.  I used Bernat Baby Jacquards that a very good friend sent to me.  I love the way the self patterning yarn came out.
This is being lovingly packaged up and put in the mail.  It's going out to British Columbia where our new grandson lives. The blanket it is laying on was given to me when I had my daughter and I've saved it for her for when she had her first baby.

I'm also busy making a crochet blanket.  This one is in blue and white and made with Bernat Baby Softee.   I'm using the same pattern I used for my other grandchildren.
I'm doing this one is 8 row sections, changing colour with each section.  I'm just starting the third section. and will do at least three more.  When done it is a 12 point star.

I'm sharing with Mosaic Monday
Hope you are having a marvellous Monday.

  4. Congratulations.
I knitted for the step grandchildren. All were boys. We decided that the last one was bound to be a girl... the knits were not pink but just a bit pretty and guess what? Another boy!
Your knitting is lovely Linda. I only do it in the winter months.

  6. No wonder it was a wonderful weekend-a new grandson! Congratulations!
I love the little sweater. That new yarn is so neat and your colors are perfect.
Maybe even I could do something with that sort of yarn. Can't wait to see the finished blanket!

  7. Linda, crocheting still remains somewhat of a mystery to me, but I do want to learn.
Congratulations on your new grandson! I love the knitted sweater; the jacquard yarn looks great. Did you use 2 separate yarns, one blue-based and one green-based? Also, if it isn't too much trouble, could you share the link for the top down pattern (assuming it's a free one with no copyright issues). I've never tried that method and wouldn't mind avoiding some seems! Thanks. :)

  9. Hi Karen, it is a varigated yarn so does the self patterning itself. I'll add the link to the post. I've also just updated my Ravelry site and it is there too.

  13. Congratulations on your new grandson. And what a wonderful welcome for them with some handmade gifts.
Must try the Bernat Jacquard yarn - looked at it the other day and wasn't sure how it would turn out.
Right now I've got 3 projects going - a baby blanket, socks for a new baby coming in February and a scarf for my BFF (she didn't like last years attempt, so I'm making another one)

  15. That's a beautiful sweater. It's amazing how much the hand knit items meant to us when our son was born. We kept them all.

Congratulations on the new grandson. :)

  19. Hey, what a coincidence! First of all, long live your grandson! Let him be a healthy and happy little man!
Second, my friend will soon give birth to a baby boy, so i started to make some things for him. I've started a pretty similar cardigan, i've already done some booties for him and started some blankets. Take a look, if you want, at: http://antiplictis.blogspot.com/2011/09/botosei.html

  20. I love that sweater! Very cute. I have a ball of that yarn in the girliest of pinks and purples. I think I need to make my very pink girl some legwarmers out of it.

I made a top-down cardigan for myself once. I loved how very little seaming there was to do.
