Long Lasting Pansies

Pansies are the first annual I purchase in the early spring.   After a long winter it is so lovely to see the hardy blooms on a cool, spring morning.
This year the pansies did really well, and they are still blooming at the end of September.

I have continually deadheaded them all season and I'm sure that is one of the reasons they have lasted so long.

I always choose my favourite colours of yellow and orange in the spring.  These are not the icicle pansies you can purchase in the Fall.  They just have survived the whole season with a lot of TLC.

Here is one of the large pots with lots of blooms still remaining.

Here are both pots of pansies and you can see that one has lasted a bit better than the other.  I will be enjoying the blooms for as long as possible.

I'm joining in with the last Cottage Floral Thursday for this year.  I'm not sure how much longer I'll have blooms to share for Fertilizer Friday.

Take time to enjoy the last day of summer as Fall officially arrives on Friday.

  1. I think pansies are so pretty and vibrant. Do you keep them in these containers outdoors over the winter? I just bought some recently and put them in an old enamal kettle but thought I should plant them in the ground for the winter. Should I? If so, when. Thanks for your help.

  3. I don't imagine the pansies will last over the winter Pamela. They were annuals bought in the spring and not the winter variety. If you just got yours now I would plant them in the ground as I've found that anything in containers tends to die off with the freeze and thaw effect over the winter.

  4. You did really well keeping them blooming through out the hot summer months. Mine gave up a while ago. V

  6. Linda The pansies are pretty and you must have taken very good care of them over the summer for the show they are now putting on.... like the shades too. I like early pansies in the spring so I look for some icicle pansies in the fall , planted now and they will survive very happily over the winter and put on a very early and lush show next spring...... long before many other plants... they even flower right up until a severe frost in December as I am sure you know , just makes it easier in the spring one less job to do..

  7. They are adorable! Can't believe they're still blooming! Pansies are a winter flower here - they die in our heat.

  10. Oh I envy the ability to grow pansies all season long. We have to plant for spring and fall. If we are lucky we might get some volunteers the following spring.

  11. So pretty! I am so impressed that they are still blooming. I actually had some johnny-jump-ups survive for most of the summer in deep shade this year - I was very surprised with our heat!

  12. Lovely pansies. They are one of my favorite flowers. Here in the desert I plant them at the end of October, and they last all winter until June when the temps start reaching 100 degrees or more daily.
