Rockville

There must of been some building permits issued as the Rockin' Village of Rockville  has more residents. For a few years now I've been painting little house on rocks.  I was inspired by Lin Wellford and her books.  Once you see the little houses she created you will look at rocks in a whole new light.

Here are a couple of rock houses that have been on the work table for awhile and I decided I needed to finish them off.

There were four to finish and it didn't take me that long as the preliminary work had already been done. You do need some patience in completing the houses as each layer has to be dry before you can move onto the next one. I use acrylic paint, brushes of various sizes, and a sealer once they are finished.

Here is Rockville in my garden.  And guess what? While we were on a beach daycation a couple of days ago I found some lovely rocks to bring home so that I can paint some more over the winter.

Do you have anything whimsical in your garden?

  1. I love your rock houses! It takes a lot of imagination to bring character to each one. I don't have anything like that but my neighbour paints rock houses and paintings as well. I took pics of his rock houses earlier but never got them posted. You Rock!! :-)

  3. What a great idea! I have always collected rocks (can't help myself), and usually put them in my flower beds. Never before thought about painting them.

I also collect and press flowers and found a use for them a couple of years ago when I took up collage. Now I make all my greeting cards using collage techniques.

  4. Hi Pamela, perhaps you will post them one day as I would love to see what others have created.

    Thanks Elizabeth.

Hi Rosemary, I used to press flowers too.

    Thanks for stopping by everyone.

These are really cute! I don't have anything whimsical, but I have some very uniquely formed
    rocks in my garden beds.
You have a lot of patience, it appears!

  9. I love your rock houses! I saw some really cute little rock ladybugs at a friend's house. Still planning to paint them. Just haven't had time. I have been collecting rocks forever. I used to paint them to like animals which were inspired by the rocks themselves.

  10. I think the blue one with the yellow roof is my favourite too Holley Garden. That was the first one I did.

Hi hetty, I've made rock ladybugs too and have a tutorial on my blog. Just click the rock label and it should take you to all my posts about rocks.

Thanks for all the comments everyone.

  13. How great to hear from you this morning! Still trying to put my reader back together and now you are right where you belong in my BFF file!

Love the little rock houses. As you know, we have lots of rocks in our garden - being that we are rock hounds! But never thought of painting them! Love yours and am inspired now myself! Perfect with my Sculpey 'shrooms!

  14. Those are amazing garden art. I am sure they complement your garden very nicely. My favorite whimsical piece in my garden is a 'fat bird' piece...always makes me smile!
