It's Cooler in the Shade

Early in the morning the sun shines into the screen gazebo.  And that makes it a hot place to sit in the morning.  Look at the lovely shadows the sun makes.

I found some old sheer net curtains that used to be in the living room, trimmed them, shortened them, and added velcro loops to the top.  I recently purchased a new sewing machine and they made up really quickly.

And now I have a nice shady spot to sit, read and enjoy a refreshing drink like a peach smoothie. You can still see the shadows cast by the sun, but the comfy chairs are basked in shade.  In the late afternoon the sun goes to the other side of the screen gazebo and it is easy to move the curtain from one side to the other.

Fresh Ontario peaches are available now.  So I love to make peach smoothies and sit in the gazebo and relax.  You need 1 or 2 peaches, 1 banana, half cup of vanilla yogurt and half cup of milk.  Mix it all together in the blender for several seconds and enjoy.

Join in with Shadow Shot and check out lots of other shadows

Take time to enjoy the garden today ... either in the sun or in the shade.

  2. Linda what a welcoming corner to sit and relax. Do you have room for one more?

  5. That looks like a very cozy place to relax.
    I like the curtain idea. I'm sure it to block the sun, but it makes it look homier too.
    I do love my smooties, as well!

  9. Hi Linda
    I'm envious of your cozy and shady retreat on the deck. We haven't erected a gazebo on our deck because every year hubby talks about covering it over for shade...one of these days.
    The peach smoothy looks yummy.

  10. This is our first year with a gazebo on the deck Judith. Finally they made one that was 8x8 that fit our deck. It is lovely and gives shade most of the day. Today we had a brief shower and we could sit in there and listen to the raindrops on the roof of the gazebo and enjoy the breeze the rain bought with it.

    IF I HAD A SHADOW

    If I had a shadow as big as the sky,
    I never would fear, and I’ll tell you why:

    My shadow would save me from dragons and things
    That fly in the night with terrible wings;

    My shadow would keep me away from the beast
    That sniffs in the west and sniffs in the east

    Hungry for children who play all alone,
    Hoping to feast upon blood, upon bone;

    My shadow would be my protector and knight
    To keep fear at bay, to banish all fright.

    I’m so glad my shadow is always nearby,
    Though it’s not nearly as big as the sky!

  23. How smart to make curtains for that side. Now you can look out and still have shelter from the sun's rays. I like your new room a lot, and the smoothie looks quite refreshing. I can imagine you will get lots and lots of use from your new 'shade' room.
