Crafting in the Garden

The Crafty Side of me has been finishing up some projects that I've been working on for awhile.  I love to relax and do my crafting in a shady spot in the garden.

The brown and beige afghan is finally finished. I didn't have any particular size in mind when I started this. My aim was to use up yarn that was sitting in the craft closet. It turned out to be about 122 cm. by 162 cm. For those of you that are not bilingual in the measurement field that is about 48 x 64 inches. It will be perfect for tucking around legs on those chilly evening in the gazebo. We aren't getting any of those right now as we are having very high temperatures with humidex factors well up into the 30 degree Celsius or over 90F.

A pink and white baby sweater that has been been finished for awhile finally had the buttons sewn onto it. It's made with Bernat baby yarn using an old British pattern I had when our girls were babies. I'm knitting this one to donate to the Auxiliary at the hospital. They run a gift store at the local hospital and money raised goes to helping the hospital. I did knit the same pattern when our granddaughter was born.

I've also been working on some repair work on an embroidered table cloth that my mother made many years ago. Over the years the original embroidery thread had worn away in many places. So I carefully unpicked what was left and restitched it.

Here is one section with the leaves repaired. I'll show a full photo of it at another time when I do another tea time post.

I hope you have time to relax and enjoy the garden today.

  1. I like the warm browns in the afghan you made. That pattern is pretty popular. The baby sweater is sweet. I love knitted baby things and think it's a shame today's mum's don't wear them on their babies as much as we did in the past. It's been very hot and humid here too but today the humidity seems to be gone. Have a great day.

  2. I love the ripple afghans too Pamela, I just changed it up a bit on this one and did some rows of sc and some of dc. I also worked in the back loops only and it gave a nice effect to both side. Yes it is a shame that knitted items aren't used as much any more.

  3. Oh I have a blankie just like that - it was made for me by my great-grandmother and I still use it! My son has one now from his great-grandmother too, we will keep it forever. I sure like your embroidery, I have never tried too myself but I do appreciate the hard work it must take!

I need to pull that out and work on it... in the garden. ;) We are having the same heat wave you are... honestly, I am ALMOST wishing for the cold wet spring weather! Note I said ALMOST!

  18. Your Mom's tablecloth looks wonderful! I'm so glad you are fixing it up instead of tossing it out, as some would do.

  19. This is just the inspiration I need to pick up my knitting needles. I have an unfinished baby sweater in the works, but it has been sitting in the basket. Maybe the trick is to work on it in the garden. I love the embroidery; I never tried to do it but think it is so lovely!

  20. How wonderful that you know how to embroider and knit...things I was never taught. My mother /grandmother did not pass on these skills and I wish I knew. I am going to have to try teaching myself or find a class. Lovely projects :)
