Blue-ming Bluets

The mountain bluets or Centaurea Montana or Batchelor Buttons are blue-ming.  This perennial plant will form into a large clump of late spring blooming plants.

The blooms are fringed with delicate blue to mauve petals. Don't you love the quilted like pattern on the buds?  Keep them deadheaded for continual bloom or else they will go to seed quickly.  The plant prefers sun but will tolerate some shade.  For some reason my original clump was lost over last winter but a wonderful friend gifted me a clump from her plant.

The colour of the plants are perfect for sharing with Blue Monday. And of course I couldn't resist creating a mosaic of the images to share with Mosaic Monday.

Thanks for visiting. Hope you are enjoying a wonderful Monday.

  1. I think a mosaic is the best way to display these beauties.

  2. So that's what those little flowers are! They seem to pop up every year...i guess the last person to live here must have planted them.
    They are so cute.

  4. I do fall for that shade of blue. It pulls me from the sidewalk towards their places in gardens. My camera and I love them.

Nice to finally know what they are called.

    Yours are gorgeous.

  5. Hi Linda: I call them bachelor's buttons. The visiting groundhog just loves those plants and will eat them to the ground. I lost several last year to his munching. V

  6. These invasive little devils always come from the property under the fence. I think they are beautiful but they grow in more abundance than the flowers I intentionally plant.

  9. I am so glad you did this post today. These flowers appeared in my son's garden and we had no idea what they were! I don't remember planting them. In fact, I thought I had planted Lamb's Ears where these appeared. But they are stunning! My son is 6 1/2 and his favourite color is blue, so he just loves them. And good to know that I should dead-head -- wasn't sure about that. beautiful mosiac.

  11. Gorgeous poppy header!
I love my beautiful blue Bachelor Buttons and have clumps all over the property. They are so dependable for that shot of colour before the other summer blooms are out.

  12. Yes they are beautiful. Any blue flower is beautiful for me, as there are not many blues here in the tropics.
