What's Up With May?

It's the middle of May and it is still dreary and raining.
I'm sure it has been the wettest, dampest, dreariest, rainiest (is there such a word) spring we have had in a long, long time.  I love how the raindrops form on the lady's mantle.  But so much rain can be depressing.

I've been missing from blogland for several days while I was in hospital having partial knee replacement surgery.  When I went in last Thursday the sun was actually shining but the rain started right after that.  I came home on Saturday and it was still raining.

"it's raining, raining, raining,
and all the world is wet,
it rained last night,
and now today,
it's raining, raining yet"
This is an old poem that I somehow remember, but it sure fits the weather today.  In fact you could repeat this poem every day and it would be appropriate.

I've missed GBBD, which I actually thought about on the 15th but just didn't have the energy to create a post.  I had left a couple of posts for Blogger to automatically post but it seems like my knee Blogger wasn't working either.
Regardless of the weather the mini iris are out in bloom.  I can see this clump of iris from the front window so it is a treat to look out and see those lovely, purple blooms.
There was lots of growth in the garden while I was in hospital.  Both pink and white bleeding heart are about to open right up.
I also missed Mosaic Monday.  Here is a mosaic showing the hosta leaves that are unfurling.
And another mosaic shows columbine, pinks, lily of the valley, coral bells, the solomon's seal, and Jacob's ladder.  I had purchased a lovely pot of fuschia and it is doing well despite the cool, damp weather.

It's better late than not at all, so I'm joining in with
Garden Bloggers Bloom Day
and
Mosaic Monday

I'm on the road to recovery with lots of exercises to do to get my knee working again.  So maybe a rainy day isn't such a bad thing, because if it was sunny and warm out you know I would be squirming to get outside and enjoy the garden. But it sure would be nice to see some sunshine.

Thanks for visiting. Have a great day.

  1. UGH...I am so fed up with this rain. I want so much to be outdoors enjoying my garden, and this rain is keeping me hostage inside. Do we not spend enough time inside during the winter?

Anyhow, the garden keeps growing, and yours is looking lovely. I wish you a speedy recovery. And I wish all of us nicer weather!

  3. Hi Martha, I hear you about the rain. We did see some sunlight (not much) for a little while this afternoon, but now the rain is back.

  4. Hi Elephant's Eye, time will tell how the new knee will be. They say with exercise that things will be great. Gardening will have to be taken from a different perspective this season. But I will figure out a way to enjoy it.

  5. Oh I hear ya with the rain! Knock on wood but I think Seattle is now finally coming into spring. I am so over the rain and gray, now on to sunshine and blue-skies. Will cross my fingers for Ontario =) Also, hope your recovery goes well and you can get back to gardening soon. Hugs and Healthy thoughts are coming your way. Cheers Julia

  6. Ah hello fellow Canadian Gardner! I hope the rain is not making your knee hurt more! The only good thing about all this rain is the brillant green shade in my yard. Your garden is growing well so it must agree with the rain!

  7. I hope you are mending nicely. A summer where you have to take it easy will give an opportunity to see what works with less care and what needs fine tuning.

Pinks are one of my favs, even though they sometimes melt in our humid summers. I keep new cuttings coming on to replace the casualties.

Thanks for sharing the wonderful photos of your flowers and plants. It's been raining, raining, raining in Idaho as well. I think my strawberries are drowning, poor dears.

  16. Rain...the weatherman said today that of the last 18 days, 11 of them have been rainy! Hope your knee heals quickly. Do you know the name of that all green Hosta in your post?

  17. Yes, rain here, too! But it helps everything grow.
Even though it was cloudy today, it didn't manage to rain, so I was able to get out in the garden to cut back the flowers that had finished blooming.
    Your flowers are just beautiful!
    I'm ready for a rest!
