Here is the mug I treasure the most.

At the time of the coronation I was a little girl in England and to the best of my knowledge all children were given a mug. This is the one that I received. It has travelled with me across the ocean a few times.

I lived in the borough of West Ham as the back of the mug shows. Many of the communities had their own mock coronation with the children of the neighbourhood re-enacting the coronation. I remember participating in this, carrying a cushion with a mock crown to be given to the little girl who was playing the queen.

Here you can see the marks on the bottom of the mug. I don't imagine it would fetch much money on the Antiques Road Show as it's a little chipped and worn but still a treasured possession. I imagine I had many cups of milky tea in it when I was little.
Won't you drop in for a cuppa?

Thanks for visiting. Have a great day.

Well I have to admit that I am very much a Royalist. A strong Monarchy is invaluable to our country politically.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have a great collection of 1953 memorabilia.
The Poppies are so brilliant.
I am always amazed at the great designs you manage on your site in blogspot.
Lovely collection and I enjoyed hearing about the mugs being given out to children! That is so fab that you still have your mug.
ReplyDeleteI have a few pieces like yours, in fact, I have the Queen Elizabeth tea cup set on the right of your top photo. I love it.
Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Hugs,
Terri

Oh, I forgot to mention that I loved seeing the Bleeding hearts in your header, beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful collection of Royal dishware. I have a cup and saucer from the coronation too and my sister has quite a few pieces. It's nice to see different ones and to think each child received a mug for the occasion! Pamela
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, Thank you for sharing a bit of your past. What a beautiful treasure and full of memories. Have a great day:)
ReplyDeleteStrange to us in the U.S. to have royalty, but so fun to view from afar. Love seeing your collection.
ReplyDeleteTreasures and treasured memories. Great post.
ReplyDeleteI remember going to the home of relatives who had a TV set, rare in those days. I was awed by the ceremony of the coronation and awed by the TV set.
Hi Linda
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting to hear about the coronation when you were young. How nice that you still have your mug, thanks for sharing.

I would love a cuppa out of the mug bearing the year I was born though the month was August! We recently had Queen Elizabeth 11 to visit out city of Cork in southern Ireland(I did a post on my blog about it)and my daughter brought me some souvenirs of the Royal Wedding from a visit to Bermingham.I think Kate and William will renew interest in the royal goings on in future!
ReplyDeleteLove your mug and other memorabilia. Great flower photos on your blog - the poppies are wonderful!
