Shadows on the Snow

It's a bone chilling day outside today.  The temperatures for the past couple of days have been really, really, cold and I would describe today as frigid. The low for today is -24 Celsius, and for those of you that are non metric that translates into -11 F.  So I won't be venturing outside to take any photos today because with the wind chill it will be a lot colder.

One of my projects is to organized all the photos I've taken over the years into folders.  It has certainly been a trip down memory lane seeing all the shots that I've accumulated.  Perhaps that is one disadvantage of digital cameras ... we just take so many photos.

The weather must of been similar to what we have been getting this weekend, with lots of snow followed by a bright, sunny day.

Perhaps the birds will venture to the feeders and I can snap some photos through the windows.
I came across some wonderful shadow photos taken a couple of years ago and just had to share them on today.
Be sure to blog hop over to Shadow Shot Sunday  where you can see some amazing shadow photos.

  1. Have I mentioned before that I LOVE photos of the snow? These are lovely, what wonderful shadow shots they make.

  2. Snow does make for great shadow shots. The snow has finally gone here (north east England), but it's a dull day so mine are from some old photos too - it's lovely going through them, even if as you say we can take so many photos digitally.

My shots are at my blog Margaret's Miscellany.

  5. Great shadow shots Linda, especially the windmill.
I'm hibernating today - just too cold to venture out. Toasty fire, cup of tea and a seed catalogue - is there any more a gal could want? :-)

  6. Very pretty snow photos. They look a lot like what today looks outdoors. Sunny and bright - and very deceiving! The brightness makes you want to go outside, but on a day like today, no way! It's definitely 'frigid' out there.

  9. Lovely, snowy captures, Linda! There is so much beauty in a snowy world, just a lot harder to see sometimes when you're shivering too hard to take photos! We certainly don't have near the cold temps that you do, but it is dark, gray and chilly and I will be so glad to see the sun!! Hope you have a great week ahead! Stay warm!

  15. I don't go out in those temperatures, either. I can't breathe air that cold.
But the sun makes the snow sparkle, and your archiving certainly unearthed some beautiful shadows. I love the first one!

  16. IF SHADOWS COULD TALK

    If shadows could talk,
    Just what would they say?
    If you listen close,
    You’ll hear them, you may.
    Shadows do chatter
    And gossip and talk
    In the store windows,
    Along the sidewalk,
    Over the mountains,
    On prairie and plain,
    Begging for sunshine
    And not days of rain;
    Emboldened by light,
    The stark shadows say:
    “We’re out for a lark,
    Please join us at play!”

  17. Oh gosh that is so cold! -24? I've never experienced temps that ever reached the minus stage! Good idea to stay inside. I hope things start to warm up soon. And I love the shadow shots you found in your archives! Especially the windmill one :)

  18. I love to visit your blog, your photos are always a pick me up. I often have tried to shot snow shots and just can't get the right edge as the no colour scheme is a hard one to capture. I caught crystal snow a week ago it was fun. Shadows are also amazing shots. Ah that is just way to cold for me, we went on a sleigh ride today and the temp -6 and a little breezy and I felt cold.

  19. Snow scenes and the shadows in particular are so beautiful but I can't even imagine what -24C feels like. Makes me feel cold just thinking about it and it's +30C here at the moment.

  20. Great shadows shots. My favourite is the first one.

  21. Neat shadows here, Crafty! Shadows are so crisp with snow as the canvas.

Believe it or not, I was actually out taking photos yesterday. The sun made me do it. We have seen so little sun lately that I just HAD to go outdoors and brave the cold.
