The Last Blooms of 2010

Here are the last blooms for Friday's Flowers for 2010.
I haven't forgot the gardening side of my blog, but there really isn't much going on right now with winter approaching.
The cosmos that are grown from seed every year are giving off their last blooms of the season.  However there are lots of seed heads which is enticing the goldfinches in to snack on the seeds.  Lots of the seed will also self sow for next year.  I just love it when Nature helps me along with my planting.
The last blooms on the roses.   When they open they aren't lasting very long now, but the last bud is just opening.
The black eyed susans, or rudbekia, are hanging in there.  There are lots of seed heads to drop seeds for next years plants.  The plants are beginning to look at bit worn out now and will soon be cut down for the winter.
The last blooms of the coreopsis are still nodding in the wind.  This has to be one of my favourite perennials as the blooms start early in the season and continue right till the very end.
These might be the last blooms in the garden but I can enjoy them all year round just by viewing all the photographs I took during gardening season.
Even though these are the last blooms, there are seeds waiting to start a new beginning.

Thanks for visiting today. I hope you can take a moment to leave a comment and say hi.

  1. Hi Linda
At least we have the photos of our flowers to remember them by over the winter.
I've never had cosmos reseed for me.

  2. Hi Linda, the goldfinches stopped by my yard here in VA (zone 7) to strip the seeds from the mimosa trees. I sure hope they get them all. Those things are invasive! We still have a few things blooming but they're well on their way out. I'll enjoy your pictures throughout the winter, too!

  3. Your garden looks a lot like mine - tired but still trying to hang on! At least we had a wonderful gardening season. Let's hope for the same next year.

  4. So sad, goodbye dear flowers. I have a few still hanging on but probably not for long. I won't truly miss them until after Christmas. I will soon be starting up my wreath business so I wouldn't have time to play in the garden anyways. January is when I finally give my houseplants some much needed attention.

  5. Fall is such a pretty time of year. It feels so good to have the pantry full, get some crisp mornings, feel a lightening of the task load. However, I don't like winter, and fall reminds me winter is coming, so my enjoyment is dampened somewhat.

we really couldn't appreciate and love our flowers so much if we didn't get to see them starting life again in the spring (my favorite season)

  7. I have pretty much cut back everything this year. DH has the yard cleaned up so nice 1st time since his we found out about his heart condition. then the nasty winds came & blew some big dead branches out last week... something left for him to do, I guess :)
