You need three different sized clay pots (two of each size) and a metal rod to hammer into the ground. Place the bottom pot on so the rod goes through the center hole. Then place a similar sized pot on top, rims together. Repeat with the next sized pot and then the smallest sized pot. If you have an extra long metal rod you can add more pots. The challenge I found was that the smaller the pot the smaller the center hole and it wouldn't fit over the diameter of the rod.
I had some tipsy pots set up this spring but with the unusually hot and humid season we have been having it was hard to keep them watered. Watering tipsy pots is hard at the best of times and having to do it a few times a day made it very time consuming. I ended up taking it apart and just setting the pots in the garden (you can see one in the background of the photo). I think I will use the pots from the tipsy pots to make another pot stacker for another part of the garden.

Neat idea Linda. I finally got my Tipsy Pots. I spray painted the pots and they turned out great. I think yours were the first I ever saw and have wanted them ever since. I got clay pots at an estate sale and used a big plastic one on the bottom that had the same shape. You're right though I've had to make sure they kept pretty wet. We're heading into a very (possibly record breaking) hot week so I'll be watering alot.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, love the totem pots!I did the tipsy pots too but they were a little too tipsy and toppled over a few times on me in strong wind, plants perished as well so now I have a not so tipsy pot arrangement more an angled one but they look great! I just turn the hose on and give them a good shower when necessary!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cool idea! I have been so behind on reading as we have spent all summer working on the garden house. The painting is almost done now. The weather here too has just been so, so hot along with humid some days that you just don't want to be outside.
ReplyDeleteNow, let me venture further to see what else you have posted!
Cute idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment about my plates. I'll be checking this out!

Neat idea! I love the idea... I wonder how a plant would do in an upturned pot at the top of your stack? :)
