On my way home from grocery shopping on the weekend I was thrilled to come across a garage sale, probably one of the first this season. Now this sale wasn't set up when I went into town but on my return about an huor later there it was just beckoning me to stop. It was actually the couple of big toy dump trucks that caught my eye. That was something my grandson would love to play with. And while there I spied some Thomas the Tank Engine DVD's. My grandson is just at the age when he is engrossed in anything Thomas. So of course I scooped them up along with a couple of puzzles. And then something for me ... a brand new microwave flower press for $2.00.
This item sells in a well known garden catalogue for just under $30.00. I checked out the catalogue and found out some information about it. In as little as 3 minutes I can have dried flowers.
It has two absorbent pads of natural wool and two sheets of broadcloth which have never been used. The terra cotta slabs on the top and bottom weigh about 2 pounds each and will ensure that the flowers are pressed flat. Moisture is forced out of the flower, through the pads and out through the slabs which moderate the drying.
So I am now ready for a pressing engagement.
Have you been garage 'sale'ing lately? Thanks for taking time to visit today. I hope you have time to leave a comment and say hi.
cool - better than the old fashioned way - my bible is full of stains from pressing flowers. When I got married I made the invitations using pressed violets from my garden. The marriage didn't last, but I bet the flowers did. ha ha
ReplyDeleteGarage sales are only allowed twice a year in my town: during the months of May and September. I'll be heading out in a few weeks though!!
ReplyDeleteNice find!
What a great find. Julie.C
ReplyDeleteGreat find, would love to see what flowers you press and what you do with them. I do no attend garage sales often, but I have seen some great finds on peoples blogs, maybe this is the year. Have a great day and take care.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda
ReplyDeleteThe flower press was a good find, especially since everything is intact.
I had my hubby make me one years ago, pressed some flowers and now it's collecting dust. I'll pull it out to see how my flowers are and think about what to do with them.
Since you are the crafty one, why not put together things we can do with our pressed flowers on your blog - I'd be delighted to follow and make some nifty things. :-)

ReplyDeleteNo I haven't been to any garage sales. I think in the UK we call them car boot sales. That was a really good find. Maybe I'll check out some sales myself. You've encouraged me to take a look.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! Congrats. I love yard sales... well here they are called stoop sales here (NYC).
ReplyDeleteNow how cool is that?! I'll have to keep a eye out for it in case someone is not sure or doesn't want it anymore. We have been having garage sales here almost every weekend although I haven't been going....been to busy outside!
ReplyDeleteLinda, I can't find a way to contact you! Please write to me at my address -- I need to ask you something.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure you found! Congratulations, Linda! I found my treasures yesterday - nice-size Marta Washington geraniums, $1.50 a piece!
