February

There's only one day the whole year long
That I hope and pray the sun won't appear,
The second of February you all know
The groundhog goes searching for his shadow
If he should find it the story is told
We'll have six more weeks of winter cold
But if it is cloudy, his shadow's not there,
There soon will be warm weather and days will be fair
So please, Mr Sun, just for this one day
Find a big dark cloud, and stay away.

This is a photo taken a few years ago when the resident groundhog visited the garden - in summer of course.  No self respecting groundhog would get up and come out of its warm burrow on a cold day like today.

The good thing about February 2 is that it is half way into winter.  So from here on in we are moving towards spring, no matter what the groundhog says.

  1. That's what I figure, too -- we're on the downside, no matter what the rodents think. :)

  2. Well, Mr Sun must have been out--somewhere--but it sure wasn't here in my neck of the woods! I like your philosophy! Regardless, we are headed TOWARD spring, not toward fall...so we have a lot of bright, warm days to look forward to;-)

  3. Hi again Linda, I forgot to mention the sustainable living project I am doing, with a give away. I didn't want you to miss out, plus, I'd just like you to join us. There are several companies donating prizes and I'm expecting maybe a couple more before we're through. Come over and read about it on my left sidebar. I'm in the process of making a little widget for it...Take care!

  4. Hi Jan, I saw your contest when I was visiting your site, and I'm planning a post (in my mind right now) and I'll let you know when it gets published.

  5. That groundhog, being such a wealth of warm fur, would likely be wise to stay in his burrow on a winter day when a shivering human might well pick him up and wrap him snugly around her neck. (:

  7. No you've completely ruined my day; I want a groundhog!

All I've got are a few pigeons, a magpie and the occasional fox that uses my garden as a toilet!
