Wild Critters

My digital camera is my constant companion while I'm working in the garden, walking by the water, or just out and about on my travels. You never know when that "Kodak Moment" will happen.

While travelling into town a couple of days ago we stopped to take some photos of the large flock of wild turkeys.  These critters live in the woods by our house and they can be seen on an almost daily basis in the field next to the road that leads into town.
Sometimes they are way off at the edge of the field close to the woods.  Other times they are fairly close to the road and lots of vehicles stop to admire them.
From a distance they look drab and uninteresting.
But once you get a closer look you can see many details
... like their patterned feathers, the shades of brown, and their bald heads.

Check out other bloggers that carry cameras all the time and snap photos of Camera Critters.

Thanks for taking time to visit today. I hope you have time to say hi and leave a comment.

  3. We have tons of turkey in SC where we are building our new house. Am curious how the dogs will react to seeing their first turkey. They chase Great Blue Heron but leave Canada Geese alone.

  4. We've been seeing more wild turkeys around here the last few years. Kinda strange birds and they look very strange roosting in a tree, they are so big.

  11. We get large flocks in the farmers' fields here too. I've even seen them on the side of the road in winter, possibly pecking at the salt?

  14. I've seen large groupings of wild turkeys like these at my brother's home in Chester, WV. It is my understanding that they are one of the most intelligent of birds. They are wonderful to watch.

  20. How lucky for you to get a chance to see these majestic birds. From afar, I would have thought they were Canadian geese. But they really are amazing. Thanks for sharing.

  21. It's funny because hubby and I were just thinking about these fellas as we were out and about this weekend and wondering if we would spot any but none at all... but I guess in some ways I did see some, right here!! Very nice! Happy new year!
