The weather forecast

A little bit of garden whimsy to bring a smile to your face.

The weather is changing and soon winter weather will be here, so I am sure you will need something to predict the weather before heading outside.
I usually check The Weather Network for the current weather, and I even have a widget on my side bar for easy access. But sometimes we just need something that is more accurate.

This weather reporter is made of yarn that is braided. You will need about 45 pieces of 18 inch yarn (4 ply) but depending on the thickness of yarn you use you may need less.
Tie the yarn in the center and fold over, divide into 3 sections and braid. Tie a piece of yarn for the neck and one to secure the braiding at the bottom. Add 2 googly eyes and a loop.

The verse that goes with the weather reporter is:

*****Congratulations*****
You are now the proud owner of a weather forecaster.
For best results, hang it outside a window.
Be sure to check it each day.
If it gets wet, it's raining!
If it turns white, it's snowing!
If it gets stiff, it's freezing!
If it is moving, it's windy!
If it is gone, you've been ripped off!!
source unknown

You could always make a weather rock. Choose a nice flat, round rock and clean all the dirt off. Add some googly eyes to give your rock some character. Put the rock in a nylon netting bag, fasten at top ready to hang outside or lay him flat at the edge of the garden. Add this poem.

Weather Rock
I'm a weather-wise rock.
Accuracy Guaranteed!!
If I'm wet, it's raining.
If I'm moving, it's windy.
If I'm white, it's snowing.
If I'm icy, it's sleeting
If I'm bouncing, it's hailing.
If I'm hot & dry, it's sunny.
If you can't see me, it's foggy.
If I'm gone, you've been ripped off
source unknown

These are fun little gifts that are quick to make. Fasten them to the top of a gift and they always gets lots of smiles when received.

LOL -- it's nice to have whimsy in the garden! My Dad has a "weather rock" that is suspended from a string. Such fun.
