The end is in sight

Yesterday, on a lovely sunny Monday afternoon I went out for a tramp through the snow in the garden in search of spring. I know that it is here, the calendar says so. It just takes some looking to find it.

Way down at the back of the property is the pussy willows and looking up into the top branches I was thrilled to see the buds are there. Now if only I could get close enough to pick some.

Look how clear the sky is. The sun was out and the birds were chirping. But they knew I had my camera in hand so they were elusive to the lens.

Looking back from my spot by the pussy willows you can see the bridge over the run off stream. The water is running quickly.
And look ... there are patches of grass showing through. One of those patches near the right side of the bridge revealed another sign of spring.

Wonderful green shoots of the daylilies are poking through the ground. Mother Nature is amazing and proves to us that even under mounds of snow the plants are growing.

So old man winter might be hanging on with more snow flurries and cold nights, but I have reassurance that spring is on its way.

Oh those photos are wonderful - there is such an essence to the air with spring on the brink. They brought back memories - one son who called them wussy pillows; the sound of an icicle cracking out a "whoopeee!" and crashing to the ground; water rushing noisily by under a cover of ice; wellington boots replacing snow boots and 'squelshing' on walks.
Thanks, Crafty. I don't miss winter but it is nice to have a brief visit!

Spring is certainly in progress -- we just have to be patient as Mother Nature seems to do things at her own speed. :)

I just love it when all those little signs of spring start popping up everywhere. I'm always excited by my first pussy willow "sighting" :)

I'm so glad you Canadians are finally starting to see signs of Spring. Gets your blood flowing again, eh?

I admire you Crafty. I'd be grumbling about the snow. But you still manage to find those hopeful signs of of spring. I have to admit, those catkins look so pretty against that sunny, clear blue sky. In spite of my grumbling about snow, it really is beautiful there on your early spring walk even with the snow.

Are you sure the end is in sight? Please tell me it's so. It snowed here today and we are expecting more on Thursday and Friday.

The promise of spring; I'm glad you feel it. Seeing snow on the northern blogs in late March is still surprising to me (it's been warm here for a while), but I enjoy seeing the differences between the regions. I know you must really appreciate spring when it does arrive.

Our yard looked like yours yesterday...and then it melted overnight. Don't you just love the anticipation of the season?
