Garden Mysteries

Don't you just love a garden mystery?
Here is just a little peek at part of a flower. You solve the garden mystery and tell me what is the name of the flower.

When I'm not working in the garden I love to read about the garden. I have lots of factual garden books but I really enjoy a good garden mystery book.
I also love to watch garden mystery shows on tv ... my favourite being Rosemary and Thyme ... a program about Rosemary Boxer and Laura Thyme who are always unearthing a death while they are rejuvenating a garden.

One of my favourite garden mystery writers is Susan Wittig Albert whose character China Bayles, a former lawyer, manages the Thyme and Seasons herb shop, a catering business, and a tea room is always in the midst of a mystery. the first book in the series is titled Thyme of Death. And did you know that Susan has a blog at Blotanical?

Ann Ripley has several garden mystery books. A couple of them are titled The Garden Tour Affair and Death at the Spring Plant Sale.

Nina Quinn is the character in the series by Heather Webber. The Garden Bloggers Book Club read one of her books, A Hoe Lot of Trouble. I read Digging up Trouble and I had a hard time finding her other books at our public library.

Another garden mystery write is Kate Collins. I've read a couple of her books titled Slay it with Flowers and Mum's the Word. The main character is Abby Knight who owns a florist shop.

Another author that I have read several of his books, is John Sherwood. Titles include Green Trigger Fingers, Creeping Jenny, a Banquet of Thorns and The Sunflower Plot and feature Celia Grant.

If you have a favourite garden mystery author, let me know as I'm always looking for new books to read.

Be sure to let me know if you can solve my garden mystery.

Love the mysteries also. Your mystery flower looks like a lily of some kind by the stamens. Asiatic probably? Have you ever read 'The Blue Rose', by Anthony Eglin? His other book, 'The Lost Gardens' was entertaining as well.

I much prefer these kind of garden mysteries to the those that go "I wonder what happened to this plant?" and "I wonder what ate that plant," or "Where did I leave my good weeder?"
Actually, I've been reading midieval mysteries such as Ellis Peter's Brother Cadfael & Candace Robb's "The Apothecary Rose," with descriptions of midieval gardens.
My guess for the plant is a Lily.

Thanks for the suggestion Frances, I'll add that to my list for when I visit the library.

mr. mcgregor's daughter - I haven't read the Brother Cadfael series but my husband has.

Sorry but the mystery flower isn't a lily. Want to guess again?

Hello,Crafty Gardener, thanks for visiting our site which led me to find yours. I knew there was a connection between gardeners and birders, but never realized we were also mystery lovers! You have led me to a whole new genre since I never knew about garden mysteries. I'll have to check out some of your suggestions the next time we visit our local library.
