Welcome

A blog, like life, is a mixture of all sorts of things. You think you are going down one road when all of a sudden you come across a curve and find yourself going off in a totally different direction. My blog covers my interests in gardening and crafting, with some reading and photography added in along the way. Depending on the season or my mood the posts will reflect more of one side of me than the other.

Grape Vine Obelisk

Turn 4 bamboo poles and some grape vine into a grape vine wreath obelisk.

To start with I placed the bamboo canes into a container of dirt just to hold them steady.
Tie the tops of the bamboo canes together with garden twine.

Starting at the bottom I began to wrap the grape vine around the canes. Be sure to wrap the vine around each cane as you work as this will help stop the wreath from slipping down. Continue working till the wreath is the thickness you want. I prefer to work with fresh cut grape vine as it bends and twists much easier.

This year I set up the grape vine obelisk in a large container and planted morning glory seeds. The vines have reached the top and I'm now in the process of twisting and training them to go down a bit before they go up again. The blooms are just beginning to open.

A great idea. :)
I have made some obelisks out of armature poles.
I think they are stylish also.
A nice contrast to the plants.

I love your Dahlias!
A beautiful picture of the pink and yellow one with the rain drops.

Wishing you lots of lovely summer days and sunshine.

Best wishes from Ida.

Great idea! I have lots of bamboo poles I've collected with plants over the years, and wild grapes are everywhere up here. Gotta make me one of those....thanks for the how-to!

Hi Linda, I love your site. I especially like the grapevine Obelisk. I was all gung ho to make it, I purchased the bamboo poles & the morning glory...but now I can't find the grapevine anywhere. I have searched craft stores, garden stores & the internet, but can only find grapevine rings. Is there anything other than grapevine that you can suggest I use. Your time and imagination is greatly appreciated. Judy

How about using thick garden twine Judy. I think that would work just as well. Thanks for visiting.
